Man dies in accident while taking daughter to school

A man and his 10-year-old daughter were in a Pontiac Firebird, heading to the girl's school. The man, who relatives say loved the girl very much, was taking her in the for the day like he often did. He was in the driver's seat, while she was sitting in the back.

Tragically, the Firebird slammed into a flatbed trailer that was hooked to a semi. The girl survived, but the man was killed. He was 41 years old.

The wreck happened just after 7:30 in the morning. The truck was working with a flag crew, and accounts indicate that they were motioning to the driver as he tried to drive in reverse into a job site.

The car was trapped under the flatbed, the top of the Firebird ripped right off and the rest pinned below the trailer. The girl was stuck in the vehicle for a short time, until rescue teams could get her out. Witnesses said that she kept saying that her father had been killed.

An investigation to find out exactly who was at fault is on-going. Workers were interviewed, along with the driver. Witnesses did note that the sun may also have played a role, as it can sometimes blind people when it's coming up in the morning, though police don't yet know if that contributed to the crash.

When a loved one dies in an accident, a family's life changes instantly. Not only do they lose someone dear to them, but they may also lose their financial support, something that's especially problematic with young children. Surviving family members must know if they have a right to compensation.
